Lessons From: The Real Mitt Romney As He Loses an Undecided Voter Over 47% Comment

Oh, Mitt Romney.  As one correspondent put it – he’s the man who was born on third base, but thinks he actually hit a triple.

And he’s running for President of the United States of America…which is well within his right to do so.

The problem is he wants us to believe he hit a triple also, but we’re just not that stupid.  Today, we have something called the internet that lets up look up all kinda shit.  Ya know, fact check and stuff like that.

One of the goals of this blog is to encourage more people to simply showcase their true selves in spite of public opinion.  I think this is the only way you gain a true, long-lasting, and dedicated following because you will strike a nerve with other people who have experienced the same struggle or success as yourself.  The same vulnerabilities, fears, goals, visions, desires, etc. are all shared by another set of individuals just waiting to hear from someone who has their same voice.  Shit, people are googling for it everyday.  They’re literally searching for that voice so they don’t feel so alone and left to question their own sanity.  If a person searches hard enough, they’ll find that voice – probably multiple similar voices, because we are NOT THAT DIFFERENT FROM ONE ANOTHER.

A few people simply have the guts to speak out.  And the rest follow.

That’s how Pat Robertson, Rush Limbaugh, and even Kirk Fucking Cameron have a following.

I actually respect those bat shit people much more than I respect Mr. Shady McGrady Romney, because they will at least stand up for and voice the exact things they believe in whether in private or in public.

Tough to do when you’re running for President of the United States, I agree since you have to appeal to as many as voters as possible – AND appeal to modern-day America.

Tough task when the two demographics have completely different ideologies.  So he’s walking that political tightrope.  And to date has done so terribly, expect for the recent 1st presidential debate, where he admittedly beat Obama, as Obama’s team simply underestimated Fumbling Mitt and thought he would do himself in.

So because he’s been handcuffed to give us any specifics on his bat shit crazy plans that need to be vetted and pre-approved by his billionaire backers (lest they stop backing him), he’s been harder to nail down than your high school first date.  So he basically comes across as a fake Shady McGrady.  Even to his own party.

The base likes Ryan because he can run on his specifics.  Just check out this telling (and HIGHLY embarrassing) clip of Romney trying to start a “Romney/Ryan” chant at HIS OWN rally as the crowd was already chanting “Ryan…Ryan…Ryan.”  He quickly and awkwardly gives up when the crowd gave him the simultaneous side-eye.  Got.Damn.Terrible.

In the infamous words of Mobb Deep, “WE DON’T BELIEVE YOU, YOU NEED MORE PEOPLE!”

Our First Real Moment – The 47%

The now infamous quote just in case you’ve been living under a rock, recorded at a private fundraiser by “the help”, discovered by President Jimmy Carter’s grandson, and exposed by blog site, Mother Jones, finally gave us a glimpse into the Mitt Romney we were never supposed to witness.

There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe that government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you name it. That that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what. And I mean, the president starts off with 48, 49, 48—he starts off with a huge number. These are people who pay no income tax. Forty-seven percent of Americans pay no income tax. So our message of low taxes doesn’t connect. And he’ll be out there talking about tax cuts for the rich. I mean that’s what they sell every four years. And so my job is not to worry about those people—I’ll never convince them that they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives. – Mitt Romney

Ummmmmmmmm……….JESUS H. CHRIST.

Really?  You know what…here’s the sad part.  I wasn’t surprised.  I was just kind of surprised he got caught on tape.  But then again, I wasn’t.  Because EVERYONE these days has a camera.  EVERYONE.  Today, EVERYTHING is documented, whether we know it or not.  I’m probably getting recorded right now writing this damn article.  Right or wrong, it’s here, and we have to deal with it.  Kinda like Mitt Romney.

Reaction from the left was as expected.  Some going so far as saying it was the day Romney lost the election.

The reaction from the right was mixed – as expected – some distancing themselves from the candidate and his charged comments, while others were finally fired up in support of his sentiments.  Many more on the right were saying it was time for Romney to finally stand on a solid platform, and this was platform to stand on.  There are in fact many conservatives that feel exactly the same way about much of the country – a country of people that they believe rely too heavily on government entitlements.  Those same people felt it was time for Romney to stop being Shady McGrady and start being the man in the video.

Michael Walsh of the National Review stated, “Romney sounded remarkably like… a real conservative,” he wrote. “He ought to own it.”

I agree with him.  Wholeheartedly.

Although we are far from the day, we deserve to at least be voting for an authentic person.  If that’s how Romney feels, he should BE that person.  If he despises 47% of the nation, let us know it.  If he thought universal health care was good for the people in his state, let us know it.  If he thinks it’s within his right to run a company to profitability by shipping jobs overseas – along with his cash – then let us freakin’ know it.  Let the voters KNOW who the fuck we’re voting for.

We’re tired of being duped by the puppets.  As you can see even if he was being himself, he would STILL have a following.  It may not be as large as he looking for, but at least it would be a dedicated following – something he’s greatly lacking today.  Ron Paul didn’t win his party’s nomination, but he was never running against an actual opponent.  He was running against a fabricated mannequin.

And I guess that’s the point – we run to win.  Puppets have won before.  Puppets will continue win in the future as long as they continue the dance of those pulling the strings.

Swing Voters Get a Glimpse

The truth is that the right will generally vote for the right.  The left, likewise.  Most elections are decided by a few key swing states and swing voters.  The coveted ‘undecided.’

My friend Danny Del Rio who resides one of the key swing states, Florida, watched Romney’s leaked tape.  He’s a Christian married father of two lovely girls, and has traditionally voted Republican.  I asked him to send me his thoughts after watching “The Real Mitt.”  Here’s what he sent me:

“Let me paint the picture for you…It was late.  Any of us with small kids knows what it is like to be on daddy duty. Flipping through the channels I stumbled upon the Rachel Maddow’s show. “Breaking News about recent Romney video.”

So I stopped to hear what was about to break.  Mind you up until this point I was undecided.  Truth be told I planned on picking the lesser of the two evils.

“Romney makes comments on a hidden video about Americans at fundraiser for the rich…”

I was amazed, and pissed.

I watched the video in its entirety.  I was amazed because I had found the crooked politician in all of the movies from my youth.  The only thing missing was a cigar, scotch and racist comment.  I was pissed because I understood whom he was pointing at…me.  I have two kids go to school full-time work full-time and make so little I practically don’t pay taxes after I get my return.  He just punched me in the face so hard it made up my mind.  Who is he?  I am at the point in my life where I understand what money is and how hard it is to come by.  I had to tell someone so I picked a person who would understand my shock.  The sad thing is many still don’t understand the full ramifications this really has.  This video in combination with recent pictures of Obama hugging the pizza parlor owner and Obama drinking beer made my decision for me.  I had not felt surer about anything else in my life.

President Obama has my wife and I voting for him now.

Important side note: we had always been very republican ’til this point.”

– Danny Del Rio

Lesson: Be your fucking self.  I’m sure this tiny tidbit of advice will mean nothing for our presidential candidate, especially if he emerges the victor.  But we as the people still deserve it regardless.

It’s my hope and prediction that social media and our obsession for documenting all facets of life will eventually put us in a place where politicians will be forced to run on a much more authentic platform.  You can’t hide a lifetime of tweets, Facebook posts and shares.

But until that day, you can still garner a huge following simply by being yourself, and speaking up, and speaking loudly.  Ask Pat Robertson, Rush Limbaugh, or Kirk Fucking Cameron.

You’re right though, they’ll never be President of the United States, but they still have more respect from me than Shady McGrady.

Special thanks to Danny Del Rio for being so honest about his sentiments.
